A “2nd Opinion” Senate Doctors reject EPA’s Utility MACT rule

18 Jun

Four members of the U.S. Senate, who happen to be medical doctors, Senators John Barrasso, Tom Coburn, Rand Paul, and John Boozman  wrote a harsh, well founded letter to President Obama today which makes a strong case that not only does the Utility MACT rule lack any health rationale, it also fails to pass the cost/benefit test. The letter also highlights the disastrous health consequences of imposing its economic costs. They point out that the rule will increase unemployment while causing electricity rates to skyrocket.

The letter ends with this plea to the president;

We ask that instead of exacerbating unemployment and harming public health that you work with us inour efforts to implement policies that achieve true health benefits without destroying jobs, and indeedAmerican coal development, in the process.
