Green vs. Green

01 May

As infuriating as the left can be, their irrational machinations sometimes become humorous, especially when a highly-regarded liberal principle turns out to crash into reality (as liberal ideas usually do) and have the opposite effect from what was intended.  This is never more entertaining than when this happens in the realm of the environment, because everything the greenies do is good for the environment, right?

Well, not so fast partner. It has come to light that some green ideas are actually rather, well, shall we say, not so green?

Everyone’s favorite bailed-out and failed solar company, Solyndra, is actually quite the little polluter. Apparently receiving gobs of taxpayer money doesn’t even require them to clean up the environmental mess they have made. CBS 5 in San Francisco investigated a Solyndra site in Milpitas and,

CBS 5 found the building locked up, with no one around. At the back, a hazardous storage area was found. There were discarded buckets half filled with liquids and barrels labeled “hazardous waste.”

I wonder if EPA will crucify Solyndra?

Even more interesting is this tidbit from  For all of you who were skeptical about wind farms, you now have more intellectual firepower.  Besides the fact that the wind is actually variable and the electricity produced is too expensive to be commercially viable, now comes this intriguing factoid. It seems that wind farms may cause localized temperature warming!

Based upon research done on wind farms in Texas,

The results, published in the journal Nature Climate Change, showed a warming trend of up to 0.72 degrees Celsius per decade in areas over the farms, compared with nearby regions without the farms.

“We attribute this warming primarily to wind farms,” the study said. The temperature change could be due to the effects of the energy expelled by farms and the movement and turbulence generated by turbine rotors, it said.

“These changes, if spatially large enough, may have noticeable impacts on local to regional weather and climate,” the authors said.

Pity the poor liberals, they just can’t win.
