This story is old, Feb. 4th, but the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees in Maryland are celebrating their new 4 year contract. Included in this contract?
– No furloughs for 4 years
– Salaries return to pre-furlough levels
– $750 bonus for all 20,000 employees in AFSCME (Total: $15,000,000)
– 2% increase Jan. 1, 2013
– 3% increase Jan. 1, 2014
– Automatic step increase Apr. 1, 2014
“This is a clean sweep of every bargaining unit by huge margins,” said Moe Said, a direct care assistant at Springfield Hospital in Sykesville, Md. “This is a great day for state employees and my patients. We achieved a great contract in tough economic times. Taxpayers be damned. We have been working hard to build the strongest union possible since we first achieved collective bargaining rights in 1997. This positions us to been even more effective in the future.”
I put that ‘Taxpayers be damned’ in there, but that’s pretty much what he’s saying, right?
Coincidentally, Maryland received $6,532,593,990.55 in 1st Quarter Stimulus from their SugarDaddy-in-Chief. The raises and bonuses at a time when the private sector is in terrible pain should put AFSCME employees in a very giving mood come 2012. Combine that with the dues that will be confiscated by the Union and funneled to Obama and the circle is complete.
Maryland remains in Obama’s pocket for the foreseeable future.
