Trip on the Way Back Machine

18 Feb

Unions have a history of over-blowing their cases, using hyperbole and hysteria to gin up public support for their strikes.

Remember the PATCO Air Traffic Controller’s strike of 1981?

According to this flyer, Reagan was going to bust up all unions. Didn’t happen.

But all PATCO workers were fired within 48 hours and banned from their jobs permanently.

The public turned on the air traffic controllers because they disrupted their air travel during summer vacation.

The Wisconsin teachers run the risk of alienating their neighbors and the parents of their students, who probably have to take time off from work or pay for childcare.

I think the public is really going to turn on the whole idea of collective bargaining for public employees, and it is about time.

For all the whining public employees do about how tough they have it (and I was one for 10 years, so I know), very few of them leave to go the private sector where things are supposedly so wonderful.

I bet very few of those teachers in Wisconsin want to teach in a private school where, for less money, they will actually be held responsible for educating the kids.
