Would Ron Paul supporters Boo Reagan today?

14 Feb

Dan Riehl at Riehl World View makes a provocative point.

But it occurs to me that what Barron (GOProud Founder) was doing – and what some libertarians do today – is precisely what Reagan was criticizing and stressing as so important here. If that’s to be called “progress,” how is it not “progressivism?” I suspect the bused in Paul-bots would boo Reagan were he to give this speech today.

After witnessing the atrocious behavior of the GOPoofs and the Paulbots this weekend I think Riehl is spot on target.

Reagan was a staunch anti-Communist, intervening in Grenada, supplying arms to the Contras in Nicaragua and the the Afghanis as they fought back the scourge of international Communism. I suspect that Ron Paul probably despises Reagan and his legacy.

I’ll admit that I was not paying much attention to the GOProud CPAC debate leading up to the event, thinking that although gayness was not really a conservative lifestyle, if they agreed with us on everything else they could be helpful to the movement.

After all, the Democrats are a group of competing parasites that don’t have common cause, don’t even like each other for that matter, but look the other way in order to attain a majority of the voting block.

Plus, I’m a live and let live kind of guy.

I was very wrong.

The GOProuder’s have unleashed a series of attacks against longtime mainstream conservative groups and conservative icons.

The Paulbots have lashed out at everyone who they disagree with and their ties to the legalize pot movement and the anti-war movement disqualify them as allies.

Both groups need to be expunged from the conservative movement. They’re anything but conservative.

If what you say above is true how do you then make room for individuals who engage in and promote homosexual relations? Groups who promote “child, adult love”? You need to connect the dots Saddleburr, there is nothing positive or conservative in the homosexual movement and they should be purged from the conservative movement.

Honestly Todd, I considered them irrelevant and ignored them, not really knowing what their agenda was. I agree that their lifestyle is destructive to themselves, but not everyone is a NAMBLA representative.

You’re right, though. If they are promoters, enablers and recruiters they have no place in this movement.

The way I see it, Libertarians and the Ron Paul supporters suffer from some of the same shortcomings as liberals…they do not see reality for what it is. As conservatives, we have to deal with the real world whether we like that or not.

For example, for the Libertarians to pretend that we can be an isolationist nation is naive (or worse), but given the reality of a world full of nations and various political movements that are out to destroy us, burying one’s head in the sand is simply suicide. That is as bad as the left’s mistaken rationalization that these nations/movements are not really our enemies, or are only our enemies because of something we did. That, too, is a delusion that will lead to our destruction. Not an appealing thought.

In order to defend ourselves, we have to have strategies that take into account the political and strategic landscape as it is, not as we wish it would be.
