His undistinguished Senate career is fortunately ended with an early exit from elected office. If he wants to be Obama’s lap dog he’d much prefer an appointment to a role in the Administration rather than suffer the constant repudiation of the great unwashed citizenry.
Chances are that former Governor and present Democratic National Committee Chair Timmy Kaine will be the Democrat nominee. He’s done much damage to the Commonwealth and to the DNC so that makes him the natural choice.
On the Republican side, there are several candidates to be primaried, but two have announced officially: Former Governor and the holder of Webb’s seat before his infamous ‘macaca moment’ derailed his re-election, George Allen; and former President of the Virginia Tea Party Federation and Richmond Tea Party, Jamie Radtke.
Several others are dipping their toes in the Republican pool to check the water temperature.
